The City of New Haven has a Ban the Box law. The City must wait until a conditional offer of employment is made to conduct a background check. This policy also applies to vendors or contractors doing business with the City. The city applies the EEOC criteria to conduct individual assessments on job applicants with criminal records. The City, for example, may deny you a job if your criminal record is related to the job duties. If you are denied employment, the employer must provide you with a copy of the report and you have the right to appeal within 10 days.
