Connecticut - Bridgeport Ban the Box Law

The City of Bridgeport has a Ban the Box policy. It will not ask about your criminal history on City job applications. The initial job applications states that criminal history information will be sought later in the application process. Inquiries about a criminal history will be delayed until an applicant has been found “otherwise eligible” to take the civil service examination.

The City will use the EEOC criteria to conduct individual assessments on job applicants and to consider factors such as the nature of the offense, the relationship between the conviction and the job, and the age at the time of offense.  If denied the job, job applicants have the right to appeal to the Civil Service Commission.
