New York - Tompkins County Ban the Box Law

If you are seeking employment at a government agency in Tompkins County, you are covered by its Ban the Box law. This law only applies to the public sector.

Under this law, you will not be asked to disclose any criminal convictions on a job application. Questions about your conviction status are postponed until you become a finalist candidate or you receive a conditional offer in the hiring process.

Public officers (i.e., elected officials) and the Ithaca City School District are exceptions to the law above.
