New York - How to Get Your RAP Sheet
In New York, the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) keeps your official arrest and conviction history, called a RAP sheet. You must provide your fingerprints to get this record.
Requesting Your Criminal History while Living in New York State
Here is how to get your RAP sheet from DCJS, located in Albany, NY, if you are a New York State resident:
- Make an appointment to get your fingerprints taken by clicking here: Identity Services or call 1-877-472-6915. You must provide one of the following service codes:
- 15464Z: Suppressed Record
- 15465F: Unsuppressed Record
- Bring the following with you to your fingerprinting appointment:
- One form of identification. Visit IdentoGo or call 877-472-6915 for information about acceptable identification. If you are a parent or guardian making a request for a child ranging in age from 11 to 17 who does not have an acceptable form of ID, you must complete this New York Photo ID Waiver for Minors form. AND
- Payment: $89.25 (DCJS processing fee: $75, Vendor processing fee: $14.25). Credit cards, checks, and money orders are accepted. Checks or money orders must be made out to “Idemia.”
- After DCJS receives your request:
- Your request will be processed, and a response will be sent via U.S. mail within three to four weeks. You cannot pick up your response in person.
- Your response may include one or more of the following: your criminal history record, information about your fingerprints, licensing, or other purpose(s), or a “no record” response.
- You will also receive information explaining how to challenge the accuracy of any reported information.
If you think you have any open warrants or immigration issues, you should contact an attorney before getting your fingerprints taken.
Requesting Your Criminal History while Living Outside of New York State
Here is how to get your RAP sheet from DCJS if you do not reside in New York State:
- Visit the IdentoGo website and enter one of the following service codes:
- 15464Z: Suppressed Record
- 15465F: Unsuppressed Record
- After entering a service code, click “Locate an Enrollment Center” and enter your zip code, or your city and state, to find a center near you.
- Schedule your appointment and bring the following with you:
- One form of identification. The IdentoGo website has information about acceptable forms of ID (If you are a parent or guardian making a request for a child ranging in age from 11 to 17 who does not have an acceptable form of ID, you must complete the New York Photo ID Waiver for Minors form).
- Payment: $58.50 (DCJS Fee: $44.25. Fingerprint Fee: $14.25). Credit cards, checks, and money orders are accepted. Checks or moeny orders must be made out to “Idemia.”
If there is no IdentoGo location near you:
- Download, print, and complete the FBI fingerprint card here: FBI (FD-258) Fingerprint Card;
- Contact a local law enforcement agency to have your fingerprints taken. You should contact an attorney before getting your fingerprints taken, if you think you have any open warrants or immigration issues;
- Visit the IdentoGo website and enroll for Cardscan submission. You must provide one of the following service codes:
- 15464Z: Suppressed Record
- 15465F: Unsuppressed Record
- Pay $44.25 for this service. The fee must be paid when you enroll for Cardscan submission.
- Print and sign the enrollment confirmation page you receive after registration is complete. This confirmation page will have a barcode printed on the top right corner, and
- Send the signed enrollment confirmation page along with your fingerprint card to:
